It is the highest post-pandemic passenger figure.
On Thursday, January 2, airport operator New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) reported that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has achieved a record-breaking passenger and flight numbers in 2024.
According to the management, NAIA handled 50.1 million passengers from January 1 until December 31 last year.
It is a 5.1% increase from its previous high in 2019, and 10.4% higher than in 2023, and well over the 35 million passenger capacity that the airport had prior to the takeover by the private consortium last September 2024.
Flight movements, excluding general aviation, have also seen an uptick, with the Manila airport recording 293,488 flights, an 8.08% increase compared to 2019 and a 4.83% rise from the year before.
The new airport operator also shared that it achieved an all-time high On-Time Performance (OTP) during the peak holiday travel period from December 30 to January 1.
Tne airport recorded an average of 83.36% with a high of 88.35% recorded on December 31, the highest OTP at NAIA since NNIC began managing the airport late last year.
In his statement, NNIC President Ramon Ang said: “More Filipinos are flying, and more visitors are coming to the Philippines.”
“This growth is a clear sign that confidence in air travel has returned, and it motivates us to work even harder. Our goal is to ensure that NAIA provides a better experience for everyone—passengers, airlines, and partners alike,” Ang added.
Additionally, the airport noted that these numbers are reflective of the “country’s recovery as a travel destination and its growing role in tourism and trade in the region.”
Moreover, in 2025, NNIC will will be focusing on further improving infrastructure and streamlining operations to keep up with rising passenger demand, as it aims “to transform NAIA into a modern, efficient airport that can support the country’s goals for tourism and economic growth.”
